I’m excited to announce the launch of a project that has been my dream for several years, but which I thought I would never have the courage or sisu to actually pursue. Here it goes…
At the end of 2017, I will embark on a 1500-mile run across the length New Zealand, averaging over 50 marathons in 50 days.
UPDATE: A lot has been happening in the past months! We now have our fundraiser up and would love you to welcome you to help give wings to our bold dream at bit.ly/sisunotsilence and at sisunotsilence.com. We’ve been getting some publicity (almost 500k view for this NowThis video) and we have started building our dream team around the adventure.
The purpose of this wild endeavor is to create a movement around ending the silence around domestic violence and sexual abuse and remove the stigma and shame that are too often imposed on individuals who have been exposed to such trauma.
To me, sisu is a verb (not a noun) and denotes action. A few weeks ago, I decided I would use whatever resources I have at hand―my heart, mind and courage―to find ways to empower some of the millions of individuals whose lives have been impacted by a violent trauma (myself included).
The project combines my passion for human rights and social justice, systems intelligence thinking, fostering futures without violence, and endurance running.
I hope you will join me in making this the kind of global wave that a project tackling such a pressing issue deserves to be. I believe we have a chance to do something truly paradigm shifting together!
The project website is now up and it is absolutely gorgeous, thanks to the hard work by my biggest supporter on the whole planet – The Husband. I hope it helps convey some of the conviction and passion I carry in my heart for this cause, as well as glimpses of the love I have for survivors of trauma.
